Chapter 26

Honeymoon is over

The wailing of the siren resonated over the campus signalling the 8 pm curfew. The wedding was officially over.

The people who had been celebrating just moments ago were now filing into separate lines, dragging their feet towards their assigned shelters located in the south side of campus where the dormitories and the sport center gymnasiums were.

It was bizarre to witness the stark contrast of the celebration moments earlier to what was unfolding before them now—masses of people moving together like docile cattle heading towards the slaughterhouse.

Kerim’s voice broke his thoughts. “Escort the newlyweds to their honeymoon suite,” he told his guards.

“Yes sir!” they said in unison. They moved in front of Harry and Serena, motioning with their rifles towards the East of campus. “Let’s go!”

“What? No cutting of the cake or throwing of the bouquet?” Serena said. “Kerim, what kind of cheap wedding is this?”

Harry snickered. He had to admire her for having the balls to stand up to Kerim.

“Lionheart’s orders,” Kerim said.

Lionheart’s orders? He wasn’t sure what that meant, but he wasn’t going to waste time thinking about it. Harry grabbed Serena’s hand. “Let’s go.”
